Growing up as a non believer, the concept of "Good Friday" was very puzzling to me. I knew that Good Friday was the day that I didn't go school. I knew that it was a day that most businesses were closed (at least back then). I even knew that it was a day that commemorated the death of Jesus, but that was the part that puzzled me. Why would we call the day that Jesus died good? It seemed as though it should have been called anything but Good Friday. But now that I am a believer, I understand fully why we call it "Good Friday." It is good because it is the day that we celebrate our sin debt being paid in full by the blood of Jesus Christ. It is the day that the righteous (Jesus) became unrighteous (Sin) so that the unrighteous (Sinners) could become the righteous (Born Again).
Unlike those who personally witnessed Jesus death, we have the benefit of knowing that on the third day He rose from the dead. Therefore, we can truly say it was a "Good Friday." I pray that you all will have a great Easter as we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ!
